Ed Grimes grew up in a small town in Ohio where music was an important part of the education system. Music was taught from the 1st grade through 8th. In high school, student population of around 400, the Acapella choir was 100 students, Mens Glee Club - 100 boys, Women's Glee club - 100 young ladies. All groups went  to State completion each year and received highest scores - straight "1". He began singing Barbershop music in his sophomore yeas 1962 when he was in a quartet in high school.  After 8 years in the US Navy he joined the San Diego Chapter in 1979 singing Lead, moved on to San Francisco Chapter and sang Tenor with the Cable Car Chorus. After many years of work and family consuming his time, he joined the Juan de Fuca Chapter in Sequim Washington where he became the Music Director and held that position for 14 years. During that time he attended Barbershop University Director's College for 8 years improving his skill as a director.
Ed enjoys singing in quartets and has been Lead and Baritone in several over his time in Barbershop. He had the pleasure of taking a quartet through the Quartet pod of Harmony University one year and one of his coaches was Freddy King, one of the great directors and quartet gold medalists of the Barbershop Society.
After retiring from 30 years of shipyard Quality Assurance management he and Annette, his wife, moved to Port St. Joe to enjoy the warm climate of Florida. Of course he started looking for a Barbershop group to join and found the GulfTones in Panama City and after a couple of years took on the duties of Music Director.
